The women I met, whose pictures I had first seen on a website, appeared similar in real life to their pictures. Some of them were better looking in real life than their pictures on the internet and some of them, let us say, were not as attractive in person as their glamour photos. Some people take good pictures and some of them dont. Look at as many pictures of each potential prospect as you can. Ask them to send some recent photos to you. However, dont place all your bets on one photo. People Change. They gain weight. They get older. Some women send in pictures of themselves five or ten years ago. Some men do that too. I had professional photographs taken of myself that I sent to women I was seeking a relationship with. One woman commented when we finally met that I didnt look like anything like my picture even though it was taken only six months previously. The other lesson from the story above is that when you are on a tour you only have so much time that you are there. You need to make the best use of your time. Going on a four day boondoggle is an incredible waste of time, when time is limited, especially when you are killing extra time with her after youve made the decision that its not working out just so you dont hurt her feelings. When you spend two days with her and dont call her back, you definitely are going to hurt her feelings. If things arent working out between you and a woman, the best thing you can do for the both of you is to cut things short. Save both yourself and her some time. By Ivan Nikolov People always ask me in the gym: how long to do cardio for fat burning. Its a one sentence question but the answer unfortunately cant be that short. Id say that knowing how long to do cardio for fat loss comes only after you already know how much calories you should eat a day in order to lose fat. Why? Because if you dont know how much you eat or if you eat a lot more than you expend then there is a little chance that youd lose any fat. Any way, this is an essential topic but if youve gotten to the point where you want to know about the duration of the cardio, I will assume that youve already got the diet part down. Now, how long to cardio for fat burning can be interpreted in two different ways: For how many weeks or months (I believe you are not thinking days!!) do I have to do cardio to get in a good shape? Or how long in duration a cardio session should be for effective fat loss. Id answer the first question like that: You will do cardio for as long as it takes. You will do it till you reach your goal. It might be 3 months, or it might be 2 years. It all depends on your current shape and your desired final destination. But keep in mind you should be losing not more than 2lb a week. 1lb is ideal. And it should all come from fat and not muscle tissue. The second question I will have to discuss a bit longer. In order to be effective at doing cardio you need to know these basic rules: You are better off doing cardio in the morning on an empty stomach or any time during the day, after the workout with weights. The reason being only then your glycogen stores (your own carbohydrate stores) will be depleted or at least very low. In this situation your body will resort to using fat for energy. That was the first thing. The second thing you should consider is: Do you intend to do regular cyclical cardio or high intensity interval training (HIIT) cardio? Whichever you choose start by doing it three times a week. Do 15-20min regular or 6-8min HIIT. Keep it there for a week and then increase the first with 5min or if you are doing the second with 3min. Keep increasing each week till you reach 40min for the regular cardio or 20min for the HIIT. At this point if you are not seeing any results, insert another cardio session for a total of four cardio sessions a week. Wait another week and check again for any changes. If you start seeing results in the form of fat loss then continue doing what you are doing. It works. If you are not seeing results, increase the cardio sessions to 5 per week. Give it a week and assess the situation again. I bet at this point you should be seeing some decent changes already. Keep it there. But if not or if your body has adapted to that higher level of activity, then your weapon is to increase the cardio sessions to 6 a week. Once that stops working for you and if you still need to lose fat, begin by inserting a second cardio session some time during the day but hours apart from the first one. You will do two cardio sessions three times a week and only one for the other three. I think you get the idea: Start with three short cardio sessions a week. Gradually increase the duration. Then increase the number of cardio sessions up to 6 per week. And if needed, start the same process over to pair each cardio session with another one again till you reach the 2 cardio sessions, twice every day, 6 times a week situation. I doubt it, though, that you will ever need to get to that point. I just wanted to describe the principle so that you know how to do it. By Michelle Yau Admit it. When you hear that a young movie star or musician is a devout Catholic, you pause for a second; not because it is an extreme religion, but for exactly the opposite reason. Maybe it's because we hear so much about actors and actresses changing religions more often than the seasons change, or perhaps it is because we expect them to be Scientologists or Kabbalahists or worship at the altar of "Cats Who Know How to Use the Remote Control." For whatever reason, Catholicism just doesn't seem like the religion of choice for the younger generation, but of course, statistics prove that wrong. After all, according to the 2004 editions of the Official Catholic Directory, the number of Catholics in the United States at the beginning of that year numbered over 67 million-- a full 23% of the population and the largest religious following in the country. In fact, the Catholic Church isn't only the largest religious body in the US, it is the largest in the world! With that many followers, they can't all be the little old ladies that reluctant church goers follow for cues during Christmas and Easter masses. Please forgive me if my tone sounds irreverent because that certainly isn't my intention. I've crossed the age barrier to be a 30-something Catholic. I am too old for my religion to be based on my parents taking me to church weekly (twice weekly when I attended Catholic school) and too young to be Catholic simply because I always have been. We are married, divorced, widowed, separated, and remarried. We are families in houses with white picket fences and 2.5 children, and we are single mothers trying to make ends meet. Keeping a Marriage With 5 Not So Easy Steps

By Rebecca Guevara When people learn Ive been married over thirty years they often pause and turn to look me up and down as though I am a chipped statue from the last century. They either congratulate me like Ive lived through a bout of bird flu or look at me with pity as though Ive been living in a bubble. Im accustomed to but dont like either response. Life has a relentless ability to twist, hammer, pound, pamper, surprise, teach, lecture all humans and I believe being married is a twist to the plot that adds certain story lines but doesnt coddle, protect, save or destroy any more or less than being single. Still, being married thirty years means Ive lived a while and at a certain point most people begin to do a little backward glancing to say, Wow, have I learned anything? To be bluntly truthful, when I first asked myself this question absolutely nothing rushed in for me to congratulate myself for accomplishing. It took a while before I willingly claimed the homely children who often are too blunt and cruel but I see their value and I no longer want to live without them. My five children are: 1. The person I married is not the one I got. He started changing the morning after the wedding. He kept changing through becoming a father, buying a house, his career and hes not stopping. Some things seemed to have stabilized from young man to real man, but life (and me) continues to pound and reshape him. 2. I carefully pick my fights. That comes from two angles. I no longer avoid an issue to keep the peace as my grandmother taught me and I no longer confront the jerk like so many others suggest. Instead I think, consider, weigh the importance and do a little training before getting in the ring or I dont get in the ring at all. 3. Kindness counts. It counts as courtesy to strangers as I drive and my physical safety is within their power and it counts with a man whose anger and hurt buttons I have down to an art as finely tuned and elegant as Russian egg painting. 4. Im a separate person. I had the little girl belief that the cleaving of marriage would tie us in mind, spirit, body and what we wanted to do next weekend. Not a one turned out true and in the end Im pleased its so. 5. Sometimes time heals wounds. Since Im a writer I feel capable of messing up anyones perfect writing with my opinions. Perhaps it is a continuing flaw of mine that can only reduce old wounds to still present scar tissue. It is slight, sometimes totally unnoticeable but it is also a gentle reminder of what I learned. Scar tissue is my respected teacher reminding me of strength, resolve, continuing forgiveness in small degrees and self-knowledge. I have a good marriage. It amply supplies me with love and happiness. He is a good and true man who has had the graciousness to stay with me. But a long lived marriage is not a monastery or moral virtue only because time has passed. It is simply a way of walking down the path of life. MATERIALS One gallon plastic milk jug Newspaper, torn into 1 inch by 6-8" inch strips White computer paper or paper towels,
torn into strips Flour and water mixture for paper mache paste Salt Scissors and Craft Knife Assorted colors of acrylic paint Craft feathers (optional) INSTRUCTIONS Prepare Work Surface: Prepare your work surface with a layer of newspaper you can discard, or an old plastic tablecloth you can wipe clean of goop and glops which are part of this messy project! Tear several pages of newspaper into strips, approximately 1 inch wide by 6-8 inches long. Dont try to be neat and cut them with scissors; the torn edges will adhere more closely and give a smoother overall surface to the finished project. HOW TO MAKE PAPER MACHE PASTE: This is our favorite recipe: Mix one part flour with 5 parts water. Bring to a boil on the stovetop and simmer for 3 minutes. Add a tablespoon or two of salt to help prevent mold. You will have consistency like thick glue. Let cool and pour into a plastic left-over container. Other Paper Mache Paste Recipe Options: Recipe #1 - One part flour to two parts water. Squeeze out lumps and add tablespoon or two of salt as mold preventative. Recipe #2 - 3/4 cup white glue to 1/4 cup water Recipe #3 - liquid starch found at your supermarket CUTTING THE MILK JUG: With a pair of sharp scissors, cut the milk jug in half from top to bottom. You can use the handle side of the jug or the other side, whichever looks like it will produce the most interesting mask. Soak and remove any labels. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Hold the jug half upside down and envision what your paper mache mask warrior will look like. The jug handle will serve as a nose. Using a craft knife, cut eye holes in the jug. You can make them round, triangular, or rectangles. Use the natural lines, circles or other physical characteristics of your particular jug to enhance the design. We used the round indentations on the milk jug to make big saucer-like eyes on one of the masks pictured here. Use your imagination and have fun! You can even cut the milk jug down one side, cut each side into 1/2 inch strips and roll them back to create the impressive mask shown here. LAYERING: Dip a newspaper strip into the flour mixture to coat, and apply it to the milk jug horizontally. Add another strip slightly overlapping the first. Continue this process until the entire jug is covered. Wrap short strips around the eyeholes from front to back of mask. Let the first layer dry completely. Each layer will take up to 24 hrs. to dry, so cover your leftover flour mixture and place in the refrigerator overnight to prevent spoiling. When you're ready for the next layer, just microwave it for about one minute. This way it's nice and warm to work with! Apply a second layer to the jug, this time angling the strips in a horizontal direction, and overlapping. This second and final layer should be made from torn strips of white computer paper. This allows for easier paint coverage when it's time to decorate. DECORATING: Zulu Warrior Now your paper mache mask is ready to paint and decorate. You may wish to paint a solid layer of one color first, then add details. Rings around the eyes, stripes and spots of different colors will add a wild look to your zulu warrior mask. Craft feathers can be hot glued to the top of the mask to add to the effect. Mummy Mask While doing this paper mache project, we discovered that the unpainted mask looks like a real mummy face, complete with the white (computer paper) wrapping! These make great Halloween party decorations! Prepare jugs with one layer of paper mache, then let kids make their own mummy mask at your Halloween party. To add to the fun, tell them they're using squishy mummy brains to make the mask! The paper mache paste is just the right texture to get kids imaginations in the slimy spirit of Halloween fun! Alien Mask The white mask with the large round eyeholes looks very much like the popular "Alien" or "Scream" character. Use the same thread that you used to sew your garment for a matching top-stitching. Or, use a contrasting thread for more definition. When you top-stitch with a single thread, it seems to sink into your fabric and is not very noticeable. For more professional looking top-stitching, try using three threads on the top of the sewing machine. You don't need to buy three spools of thread to do this. Just wind three bobbins of sewing thread and place them on the spindle at the top of the sewing machine where you normally place your single spool of thread. Try to have your bobbins full to begin top-stitching. Fill one bobbin as you normally do for the bobbin case. Thread the bottom bobbin as usual. Hold the end of each of the top three bobbin threads together in your hand and thread them as one thread through your sewing machine and needle. Moistening the threads first seems to help. You may need a needle threader to help you do this. You can find a needle threader in the notions department of your favorite sewing or fabric store or you may already have one in your sewing case. Set your sewing machine stitch for a longer stitch (about 6 to 8 stitches per inch). Stitch very slowly and straight. Use a stitching guide or tape to help you if you need it.
